Community Power Corporation: What the BioMax Gasification Company Does

james kBy james kJuly 31, 2026

    What Is Community Power Corporation?

Community Power Corporation (CPC), established in 1995 and headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, is a developer and supplier of small, modular biomass gasification systems. The company’s flagship product, the BioMax, converts biomass waste — such as wood chips, nut shells, and agricultural residues — into usable energy, without functioning as an incinerator.

    How the BioMax System Works

The BioMax uses a patented downdraft gasification process, heating biomass feedstock to over 800°C to release a flammable gas mixture called syngas. This syngas powers engines inside the system that turn a generator to produce electricity, while leftover carbon-rich material, called biochar, can be used separately as a soil-enriching product. The system is designed to operate 24/7, largely unattended, with remote monitoring and automated alerts if issues arise.

    Ownership History

CPC operated for years as a government-grant-driven company, honing its technology at more than 40 gasification installations for the U.S. military in Iraq. In 2011, the company was acquired by Afognak Native Corporation, which took the technology into broader commercialization. CPC is now a wholly owned subsidiary of SynTech Bioenergy LLC.

    Typical Applications and Customers

BioMax systems are used by agricultural processors, commercial enterprises, government and military facilities, and institutions like schools and colleges looking to convert on-site biomass waste into power, heat, or cooling, while reducing dependence on higher-cost fossil fuels like diesel or propane.

    Why the Technology Matters

As energy costs and sustainability concerns continue to shape industrial and institutional decision-making, modular systems like BioMax offer a way to convert waste streams that would otherwise require disposal into a usable, on-site energy source, appealing particularly to remote or off-grid facilities where conventional utility infrastructure is limited or expensive.

    Final Thoughts

Community Power Corporation represents a specialized but genuinely impactful corner of the renewable energy industry, turning decades of gasification research — including real-world military deployment — into a commercially available modular power solution for a wide range of industrial and institutional customers.
